Drums and Barrels from DENIOS

At DENIOS UK, we aim to meet all your workplace storage needs with our range of high-quality plastic and steel drums. These are suitable for storing viscous liquids, pastes and loose solids, and we stock a wide range of drum handling equipment to help you use them as efficiently as possible.

All of the drums and polyethylene barrels in our range are UN approved, so as long as you use them appropriately, you can be confident about compliance with environmental protection regulations.

When purchasing drums, you will need to make sure that they are properly suited for the substances that you intend to store, that they are of sufficient capacity, and that they have the right sized openings for your purposes. You should also ensure that the lid type you choose strikes the right balance between security and ease of access. Some drum lids incorporate valves to prevent gas from building up inside them and creating a pressure-related explosion risk.

Types of Drums

We stock UN approved drums manufactured from steel and designed for the storage of liquids or solid materials. They have ported openings and therefore usually require tools to open, providing an extra layer of security. Untreated on the inside, they are painted on the outside and are available in 60 litre or 205 litre sizes. Because they meet UN standards, these drums are suitable for use with all the standard equipment used in the industry, minimising the risk of accidents.

Our polyethylene drums have wide openings, making them easy to fill – even when you’re working at speed. They’re designed to store solids or pastes. Some of them incorporate L-rings, which help to secure their covers. PE drums with tension rings or clamping rings are easy to secure in position, reducing the risk of spillage or contamination when they’re being transported. They are also an environmentally friendly option. Choose from lidded barrels with 30, 60, 120 or 220 litre capacities.

We also stock a range of safety drums. Using a chemical barrel like this means that you can safely store acids, alkalis and many different kinds of corrosive chemicals. These have a capacity of 245 or 360 litres and are available with clamping ring covers or screw caps. They have large openings, allowing plenty of room for filling and reducing the risk of spillage.

Lifting and moving barrels

Although 60 litre drums can often be carried over short distances, a fully filled 205 litre drum can weigh as much as 300 kg, making it unsafe to simply lift and carry even if two workers approach the task together. This means that it’s essential to use specialist drum lifting equipment.

Manual lifting can be managed with the use of trolleys, which slide under barrels and tilt them into position. This should obviously not be attempted if a barrel is open or otherwise at risk of spilling its contents. In that case, it should be lifted using a forklift truck with the appropriate attachments, either from above or using gripping arms designed to avoid tilting.

Moving a steel or PE barrel over a long distance poses a risk even if manual lifting equipment is used, especially if it needs to be done repeatedly. Damage caused to the body by this type of injury can be slow to develop and therefore hard to spot before it becomes serious. For this reason, forklifts should always be used when a drum has to be moved like this. They are also essential when moving drums to or from elevated storage positions.
