Chemion Logistik GmbH can look back on more than 150 years of experience in the field of chemical and chemical-related logistics. Initially as the Central Logistics Division of the Bayer Group, later as a fully owned subsidiary of CURRENTA GmbH & Co. OHG. Today, Chemion has around 1,000 employees at the three CHEMPARK sites in Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen as well as the two external warehouses in Duisburg.
One of Chemion's fields of activity is the individual filling of chemicals into containers of various sizes:
Individual delivery volumes in large and small containers.
Special systems for filling and transferring drums and IBCs
Sample filling with labelling and dispatch within 24 hours
For the relocation of the "Sample Service Centre" from Krefeld to Dormagen, an existing warehouse building had to be adapted to the needs of filling and refilling product samples. Chemion was looking for a competent partner for this and chose DENIOS.
Together, Chemion and DENIOS developed a concept for filling activities in a technical room system. For this purpose, an F90 fire protection warehouse was equipped with two integrated work tables where chemicals are transferred from drums and IBCs into smaller containers. The transfer storage system is an F90 shelf storage system of the DENIOS type series FBM base.
The interior was fitted with electrically conductive PE inliners and equipped for Ex zone 1 (design min. II 2G EEx e IIB T3). Outside the technical room system, no Ex zone was required. For loading, a double-leaf swing door element (T90-2, DIN right) with automatic door closing and hold-open system was installed on each of the two short fire protection storage sides. At the front of the hazardous materials warehouse, there is a double-leaf door element for entry and unloading, also with an automatic door closing and hold-open system and F90 glazing in the active leaf. In addition, the rear also contains a door element for entering the warehouse.
A technical ventilation system with exhaust air monitoring ensures a 5-fold air exchange in the fire protection warehouse. The exhaust air is cleaned by a customer-side scrubber. Two movement switches ensure safety-relevant monitoring of the interior for personnel activity. The floor of the fire protection storage area is covered with grids (mesh size 22 x 11 mm) that can be accessed by forklift trucks.
Behind the loading door are two dosing stations, designed in width and length for IBCs. However, an adapter attachment also allows transfer from horizontal 200-litre drums. Also inside the warehouse are two filling tables with height-adjustable feet (30 mm). They contain three stainless steel basins in liquid-tight, welded tub design and centrally arranged drains with stopcocks. Ejector nozzles are integrated into the front edge of the basins to specifically remove airborne particles from the employee's breathing area. The suction channel is located in the rear area of the basins. In addition, an ATEX extraction arm with a control switch (on-off) in Ex design is installed in the interior of the fire protection warehouse. The arm length is 1.5 m. The arm is connected via an exhaust air line to a fan that is mounted on the roof of the fire protection warehouse.
Chemion received an important component for the legally compliant and officially approved solution, which is perfectly tailored to Chemion's needs. Thanks to the interaction between the DENIOS business areas of hazardous materials storage and air technology, it was possible to develop an overarching solution that also meets all the requirements for the sensitive areas of pollutant detection and fire protection.
