Storage of chemical raw materials at Siemens in France

Storage of chemical raw materials at Siemens in France

Siemens, Europe's market leader in high tech product is synonymous with technical efficiency, innovation, quality and reliability. With more than 400,000 members of staff, the company mainly concentrates on the sectors industry, energy and health care targeting.

The challenge and task

The Siemens business subsidy "Industry" is located in Haguenau in France. When 10.000 m² production area was added, the site as good as doubled. Due to this expansion, more storing space was needed for chemical raw materials.

As various different kinds of chemicals had to be stored, risk of explosion presented itself. Separate storage was therefore the only safe and law compliant way of storing the chemicals. The existing building at the production site, however, did not offer enough space. Building a new one proved too expensive so Siemens searched for a flexible and mobile solution.

The solution

DENIOS designed a flexible storage solution, consisting of a MC Vario walk-in drum and IBC store and two special containers type 2PK814-OST. Using three individual and separately accessible containers, a system separate storage was created on the smallest possible space. The interior design including heating, ventilation, lighting and shelving were delivered as completely explosion proof versions. The use of non-flammable materials ensures thorough insulation. And in the container the floor integrated sump pallet prevents soil and water pollution in case of a leakage. This enables safe and law compliant storage while protecting both the environment and staff.

Result and customer benefits

DENIOS designed a solution that meets the client's requirements perfectly: DENIOS storage containers for hazardous materials are effortlessly relocatable and can be flexibly moved when required. As many staff members needed quick access to the stored chemicals, Siemens positioned the container in the production hall's centre. This strongly enhances efficiency and saves time.

Ramps and door openers guarantee easy access to the contents of the stored containers. A locking device prevents unauthorised access.

The job was completed to the fullest satisfaction of our customer. DENIOS and Siemens are currently planning other joint projects.

Companies that handle and store hazardous substances also have a responsibility to protect them from unauthorised access. With access restrictions, you not only ensure that theft or manipulation, for example, are made more difficult. You also prevent employees who have not been appropriately instructed from gaining access to hazardous substances or sensitive work areas.
