What is Atex certification?

ATEX refers to two EU directives designed with controlling explosive atmospheres. The first is called Directive 99/92/EC and is also referred to as ATEX 137 or “the workplace directive”. This sets out the minimum requirements to ensure the health and safety of workers when they are in a potentially explosive environment. The second is directive 94/9/EC, which is referred to as ATEX 95 or “the equipment directive”. This governs the type of equipment used and how it is utilised. ATEX certification ensures that organisations and products are compliant with these two directives.

Large EX rated heating jackets

The large EX rated heating jackets are designed to be used with larger storage containers such as IBCs. They require a power supply as the heating is controlled and they offer class protection of IP 44. The jacket offers insulation from high-density fibreglass. The size of a jacket used on an IBC can also be used to wrap four of the 205 litre steel drums. The automatic temperature control is certified, and the insulating cover stops the unit from cooling down too rapidly.

The jackets are also available in a slimline version that is suitable for standard gas cylinders. These are IP and also require a 240 V power supply. The built-in thermostat can go from 0°C to 50°C and can be used in EX zones. It is suitable for use indoors or in any covered area.

Benefits

One of the benefits of the EX rated heating jackets is the fact that they can be removed and replaced as needed. The installation time on the jackets is minimal and there is very little maintenance to be done. Each jacket features a long service life and offers optimum heat distribution. By maintaining a constant temperature for the materials inside the IBC or drum, you are ensuring a longer life span. This means cutting back on the waste that you would have if the products became unusable due to poor temperature management. The jackets are easy to use and have the potential to be utilised in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing.
