Heavy Duty, Heat Insulated and Open Sided IBC and Drum Storage Containers
An Exercise In Safe Storage
Jones Stroud Insulations based in Longridge, near Preston, is a member of the Internationally renowned Krempel Group and is a noted name in the field of designing and manufacturing mica products, high grade composites, insulation and sleeving products in varied materials and finishes which are essential aspects of production across industrial, commercial and consumer sectors.
The Challenge
The proximity to residential areas, of exposed open storage of numerous drums of chemicals, meant constant attention in order to meet health & safety regulations such as COSHH, RRFSO and DSEAR and meet especially the needs of the local authority for the environmental permit – as well as looking to save space and improve overall image of the premises.
The Solution
Phil Taberner, Head of QHSE at the Longridge site, performed a series of detailed risk assessments that highlighted a need to improve on-site house keeping, reduced amounts of internally stored solvents and resins and purchase suitable external cabinets and internal bund pallets. A report followed and when the improvement project was approved by the management, he turned to the specialist storage experts Denios. The result is a confined, dedicated “park” of heavy duty system containers within which the drums and IBCs are safely and tidily stored. The Denios containers vary in configuration and include heat insulated and open sided versions. This has resulted in less drums and keeping them in better and safer condition. Mr Taberner also attended one of the famous Denios seminars which are delivered under the IOSH umbrella.
Benefits
As Mr Taberner observes “Only Denios were able to provide different types of containers for varied contents and I was very comfortable that they know what they are about. The numerous epoxy resins and solvents involved include Toluene, Xylene, Acetone, White Spiirt and MEK. The area has been transformed. It nows looks much more modern and cleaner which impresses our customers, the Local Authority and the Environment Agency. And interestingly I have also noticed a distinct improvement in staff morale as they realise that we are a thoughtful and progressive company, concerned with keeping our people and the environment safe”.
